I still remember coming home from the hospital with my first child and wishing for an instruction manual. My wife and I knew that we were responsible for much more than just feeding and changing our child. Our newborn infant bore the image of God, was created with an eternal soul and we knew that no two people on the planet would have a more significant role in shaping our child’s life than we did! Parenting Infants and Parenting Toddlers to Teens are exactly the kind of help we were looking for. We have used Dr. Plumley’s materials as a reference for our own parenting and to shape the curriculum of our parenting classes at Baltimore Bible Church, and several families in our church have taken the entire class with Dr. Plumley and have personally benefitted from his instruction. It is careful, practical, and thoroughly biblical. I don’t know of another work like it.
It shouldn’t surprise us that God—who designed the family—has given us many instructions and principles to help us raise children who will honor Him and be a blessing to others. But it may surprise you that God is as interested in how your parenting will cause you to become more godly, as well.
Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. (Deuteronomy 6:4-7)
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4)
These classes are based on over 30 years of studying, applying, and teaching biblical principles of parenting to hundreds of people in several churches. Pastor Alan and Carol have four adult children who reinforced for them first-hand the wisdom of God’s design for the family. These two courses embody both what they were privileged to learn that helped them to avoid common pitfalls, and also important lessons that they wish they had learned beforehand.
