Hope Academy

A homeschool tutorial and umbrella program registered with the Maryland State Department of Education to supervise home instruction. Tutors instruct the students in the classroom on Tuesdays and Fridays each week during the school year. Parents are responsible for teaching the curriculum at home on the other days of the week. It is our goal to assist parents as they strive to fulfill their God-given role in training and educating their children.

Our Mission

Hope Academy exists as a ministry of Hope Bible Church with the mission of supporting local homeschool families, fostering biblical discipleship amongst our members, and above all bringing glory to God.

Support Homeschool Families
  • Providing a cooperative tutorial in which families join in service together.
  • Maintaining a Christ-centered classroom environment that seeks to foster a love of learning and excellence in the students’ academic pursuits.
Disciple Our Members
  • Supporting and encouraging parents in the biblical training of their children.
  • Taking opportunities to foster Christ-like character, as the staff and volunteers of Hope Academy minister to the students and each other.
Glorify God
  • Coming alongside parents to support them as they fulfill their God-given roll of raising children to love and serve the Lord.
  • Fostering a sense of community amongst local believers.

Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6

Our Programs

Families may participate in either or both programs

A homeschool tutorial hybrid program

We offer both core and elective classes for 1st –12th grade as well as a preschool and kindergarten enrichment program. Tutors instruct the students in the classroom on Tuesdays and Fridays each week during the school year while the parents are responsible for teaching the curriculum at home on the other days of the week. It is our goal to offer a program to assist parents as they strive to fulfill their God-given role in training and educating their children.

A supervised home education program (“umbrella program”) which meets current State of Maryland regulations.

The program is designed to give parents as much freedom as possible in determining their children’s education.

The Hope Academy Umbrella Administration can show parents how to:

  1. maintain a portfolio,
  2. monitor each child’s progress, and
  3. maintain all necessary student records

…all while allowing the parents to have maximum control over the choice of curriculum, schedule and format of homeschool lessons.

The Hope Academy Umbrella Program requires that applicants meet one of the following criteria to be eligible to participate in the program:

  • be a member of Hope Bible Church or
  • complete the application process and be enrolled in the Hope Academy Tutorial Program.

The fee for the school year is $50 per family per year for the General Umbrella Program for students in grades K-8. This will include a pre-enrollment conference for new families and two portfolio reviews per school year, one at the end of each semester. The pre-enrollment conference may be conducted via phone, email, and/or in person. Portfolio reviews will be conducted primarily by experienced home school parents or, if needed, by professional educators. All portfolio evaluators are members of Hope Bible Church.

A High School Umbrella Program is also available for students in grades 9-12. The fee is $100 per family per year. This will include a pre-enrollment conference, information and advisement regarding high school credit requirements and curricula, two portfolio reviews per school year, transcript preparation and maintenance, sending official transcripts to the institutions of the student’s choice, and awarding a “diploma” upon completion of the high school requirements as prescribed by Hope Academy Umbrella. Students may only be admitted to the high school program at the beginning of ninth grade, except by special permission of the Hope Academy Umbrella Administrator. A parent orientation may be held as needed to prepare parents for the High School Umbrella Program.
